So it's going to be an experimental side step from my usual foray into modding games. In short, I entered education 15 years ago wanting to leave and become a Game Designer. Oh the youth; I had this grandiose idea I'd become a jack of all trades, designing my way through levels, and writing code, and making buildings look shiny. Then, as I worked lazily through a computing degree, and dabbled with Quake Arena level editors, it dawned on me: I need to specialise.
15 years later, and I'm a semi-software dev, support guy who's managed a couple of mod teams and had some success with simple scripting programs, but hasn't really gotten any further.
So this is now where I stand; a new year, in my 3rd decade, looking to the future. And that future is... back to square one. So this blog, or whatever it'll be, as right now it's a notepad file, will be me attempting to record how I get on throughout the year.
I'll be working with Unity, personal edition, to rekindle my love affair with C# and original game design. I'll be going it alone, for the most part, save for my terrible 3D modelling skills, so I may call on some global chums to assist me along the way, but this is how it'll be.
It's overwhelming; there are hundreds of tutorials out there for Unity, many pro, many semi. Youtube has a plethora of vids for me to catch up on, which is great, but I really get to grips with things by getting my mits down and dirty, which is what I intend on doing right now. I'll let you know how that goes.
Chris
